"Oh, don't do that to him!"

We went to the grocery store on Monday and I bumped into the daughter of one of my patients that I hadn't seen in a long time. For those of you that don't know, I was a social worker before becoming a stay at home mom. It was funny because she turned around at my hubby and Cooper that were further down the aisle and said "is that your baby?" She said that you could tell he was mine. I liked that comment :)

What I didn't like was the following stuff. She asked if we were going to have anymore and I said that we were most likely done with adding onto our family. She then proceeds to tell me how unfair it is to not give him a brother or sister. Well, I could've gone into the whole story but really why should I have to? I can't have anymore kids but even if I could, why can't I just be satisified with the one that I have? I could've gone into the whole "I'm lucky to have this one" story but why should I have to? I could've gone into the "well, I wanted two but that wasn't in God's plan..." story but again why should I have to?

I'm tired of having to tell a really sad story to get people to leave me alone about kids. Enough, already! I truly believe that people mean well, but as a whole they're generally clueless.

  1. I'm sorry she said that to you. People don't think sometimes. Even if she meant well there was no need for her to say that it's "unfair" for Cooper not to have siblings. Really? There's a ton of kids that are only children and they turn out just fine. It just means they get all of Mommy and Daddy's attention and maybe that's just what Cooper needs anyways :)

  2. I get that. I hate any questions about babies and pregnancy. People just don't get it. I'm sorry.

  3. I get that too, even though I have five. I mostly get "Oh no! All Boys? You've got to try for a girl!" People are just dumb. I always answer them with "Well, I don't have a uterus, so unless you have some way around that, then I'm pretty sure we're done." I know it's snotty, but it shuts them up.

...and it really bothers me that they think I should somehow feel slighted by having all boys. I abslolutely love it; and I've got my girl waiting for me in Heaven.

  4. You already know I have a very non-friendly answer for her ;) but i will keep Coop's page clean. I wish people would consider that having 40 kids or 1 is only the business of the parents. i have not even given birth to Adrian yet and I have had to answer this already. I think its a rude question, and I even thought it was before I lost alyssa (((hugs)))
